Should we get a black or brown violin and cello set?

What might be 'cool' today (can you define 'cool' for me?) will be deemed as 'out' in a few years' (maybe even a few months') time. Do things properly or don't do them at all. 'Brown' (varnish, not paint) is the only worthwhile to go.
