My ex's family is threatening me, can they get in trouble?

my boyfriend and i broke up a few weeks ago, and tonight all of a sudden his older brother sent me a text message, a few actually, and told me to go 'neck myself' (his way of saying go kill yourself) and told me my ex and the whole family hope to see me dead in a hole and continued on to call me a slut, skank, etc. i called the police and am going in there with the messages tomorrow morning, but i just want to know, will he even get in any trouble for this? or will he get off scott free like he normally does with everything. i did nothing to antagonize him and did not start this, nor did i retaliate with threats as he did. also, his other brother called me a few nights ago and told me he was going to 'smash my house in'. i couldn't record the call, but my mother heard it and was concerned because its her house. can i do anything about that? or not because my mum is the only witness?
